Tame the Wild West with Gunman Clive

Gunman-Clive-Title-ScreenThere’s a special place in my heart for westerns.

Maybe it’s because I’m an American.  Maybe it’s because I admire Sergio Leone’s masterful directing and Client Eastwood’s iconic acting in For a Few Dollars More.  Or it could be that I just like a hero who’s more at home with the underworld than against it.  On a separate note; I love Megaman.  Not that legends or zero shit that came later but the sidescrollers of the late 80s and 90s.  Like the great westerns, they have a purity in simple gritty portrayal.  And apparently I’m not the only one because Swedish indie developer Bertil Hörberg, (who we can assume has seen just about every western under the setting sun because this is an homage to all of them) mashed them together to create Gunman Clive.

You play Clive and must jump, shoot and puzzle your way through the old west and out of this world to save the damsel in distress who was kidnapped by robots..?  Aliens?  The art is beautiful, the music is fitting, and the controls echo the simplicity of an bygone gaming age.  Toss in a couple of crazy boss fights, the essential mine car level, and boom, an instant classic.  Recommended for sessions between 10 and 20 minutes.
